The Best Pizza in the North |

The Northern United States is a great region for terrific pizza. No matter what style you like, there is a pizza restaurant worth visiting when you are up north. From basic New York-style to thicker varieties to speciality pizzas with unusual toppings, here are three of the best pizza places you can try.
DiCarlo's
Your next stop on your pizza tour of the north is just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Original DiCarlo's Famous Pizza is located in Cranberry Township just north of the city. There you can try the amazing DiCarlo's pie. With its process of shredding cheese and making dough and sauce fresh daily, DiCarlo's taste is unparalleled.
Yet it is the baking method that is most unusual--and that makes DiCarlo's, which originated in the Ohio Valley in Wheeling around 1949--taste so wonderful. DiCarlo's "flash-bakes" the crust and sauce first, then pulls the pizza out of the brick oven, adding the cheese cold. The result is a pizza of medium thickness that has a very crispy texture.
The only truly unusual topping that DiCarlo's offers is jalapenos; still, the standard toppings that they do have are always fresh and never frozen. DiCarlo's offers slices or a 16-cut square pizza. To really load up the toppings, try the 7-item Super Deluxe. DiCarlo's also has veggie and white pizzas, too. DiCarlo's has pick-up or eat-in options available; they accept credit/debit cards and cash.
